Nearly 1.2 million Americans are infected with the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), a virus that attacks the body’s immune response system. Spread through bodily fluids such as blood or blood products as well as breast milk or semen from an infected person, there is no cure for the disease, but it can be effectively controlled through antiretroviral therapy.
Testing for sexually transmitted diseases such as HIV can be a very sensitive issue. According to the CDC, 1 in 7 people in the United States with HIV are unaware of their status. But knowing your status can empower you to make the right health decisions for you and your family.
AM/PM Urgent Care offers an HIV diagnostic test at our Bergenfield, Cliffside Park, North Bergen, Norwoord, Englewood, and Allendale locations with results available within 30 minutes. This test looks for the presence of specific antibodies that are produced by our immune system in response to an attack by the virus. If no HIV antibodies are detected in the rapid test, speak to your provider about additional testing at the 3 and 6 month mark.
